I was hoping to have an English lesson at the public library, so the next Monday morning ,I went to the library earlier than its opening time. When I went int the library,I saw a librarian woman sitting at the desk, so I asked her some questions about the English lesson I was interested in. I was glad that she could understand what I said in English. I talked with her about my name, my age, my home country, why I came to the United States, and when I would return to my home country.

Then she held my hand and shook it, saying to me, "Welcome to our library for the English lessons. " But she explained that the assigned teacher would come to the classroom at 12 PM, so I needed to come back at 12. I felt a little disappointed but still hopeful. At 12 PM, I went back. This time, I saw a man at the desk in the classroom. I asked him my question in English, and he told me that first, I needed to take an ESL(English as a Second Language)test; Then second: According to the ESL test results, students will be placed into classes and can then begin their English lessons.

I asked how I could take the ESL test, and he gave me a paper with a QR code to scan to schedule the test. I followed his instructions, but I could only select the first available date, which was February 26th. That was too late because I had to return to my home country before then. I asked him if there was any other way to join the English lesson, but he shrugged his shoulders and said there was no other way. I was so disappointed when I heard his words. I went home feeling downcast.

That was how my attempt to join the English lesson ended. I got my hopes up for nothing.
