Thank you very much for coming to my exhibition. This exhibition is a collection of paintings I have made in last year. Redlands Coast's unique environment inspired my creativity and I tried to integrate my personal experience and feelings into my artistic creation.

I was born in China and I had my training in Chinese painting. As far back as the Song Dynasty a thousand years ago, ink painting was very mature and reached a high point in the Ming Dynasty. The characteristic of Chinese painting is to use lines to express shape and style while brush and ink techniques are an important part of a Chinese painting.

In my artistic practice, representation does not have to be realistic, I try to pursuit the structure of the music-like coherence. At the same time, I absorb elements from Western painting, especially expressionism and abstractionism art, to achieve the intensity and freedom of colour.

External environment is often the source of

creativity for artists. I moved from China to

Brisbane in 2010. The air, sunshine, ocean and plants in Queensland bring me a new vision andfresh energy. I often visited Wellington Point and mangroves forests along the shorelines. I was fascinated by the shape and colour of mangroves, and the light and shadow they play in the water. I took mangroves as a theme for my painting. On the one hand, by using water, brush and ink, these Chinese painting techniques can fully express the beauty and strength of mangroves. On the other hand, the influence of Western modern art added the tension and power to my paintings. It is the collision between Chinese aesthetic and Western aesthetic that has brought me the freedom of creation. This series of paintings ‘Impressions of mangroves’ are a reflection of my personal observation and understanding of the natural world.
